Kevin O. McKeown
Kevin O. McKeown is Director of Bands at Santa Monica High School, where the “Samohi” Wind Ensemble was selected to perform at the 2016 California All-State Music Education Conference (CASMEC) in San Jose, CA. The program includes five concert bands, marching band, colorguard/winterguard, and two jazz bands/combos. Performance highlights with the Samohi Wind Ensemble include “showcase” performances in Chicago Symphony Hall with Christopher Martin, John F. Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall with Michael Sachs.
In 2016 Mr. McKeown was awarded the PTA “Teacher of the Year” for the Santa Monica–Malibu Unified School District. Mr. McKeown is currently the conductor of Wind Ensembles at Santa Monica College and the University of California, Irvine. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees in music education and conducting from the University of California, Los Angeles under the mentoring of Dr. Thomas Lee and Gordon Henderson. Mr. McKeown is an active guest conductor and clinician internationally, having most recently conducted the School Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) Honor Band in Brisbane, Australia.
